Group 6 : Cervical Radiculopathy  
Male Doctor , aged 34 years:
First consultation …… 21st Dec’ 2002 :
  • H/o Pain Nape of Neck, Heaviness & Weakness – Lt. upper limb,
    Movements – painful
  • H/O having consulted Neurologist,
  • Was diagnosed as CERVICAL SPONDYLOSIS WITH ROOT PAINS
  • Was expecting “Natural Recovery”
  • Was Suggested “Steroids”
  • At this stage , came for “ acupuncture opinion”

Our Diagnosis:

  • CERVICAL SPONDYLOSIS WITH ROOT PAINS ( imminent radiculopathy ? )
  • Was advised Admission for “ Supervised aggressive conservative ” treatment with acupuncture to increase the speed of natural recovery
  • Refused admission, Not Convinced the need of admission, requested outpatient treatment, we refused.

Left Para central & Lat. Herniation of C4-5 Disc.
Right Para central Bulge of C6-7 Disc
Second CONSULTATION ( after 40 days ) 31st January 2003
  • H/o having consulted NEUROLGIST - Anti Inflammatory Drugs + STEROIDS + Vitamins – partial pain relief , but developed weakness of LT. Arm and not able to work
  • Was willing to get admitted immediately
  • O/E G C Good & Stable
  • LT. SHOULDER : Loss of normal contour – almost flat, loss of deltoid & biceps contour – almost flat
  • Muscle Power: around “ – 3 ” at shoulder & biceps
  • Muscle Tone : Hypotonia
  • Muscle Atrophy: yes, at LT. shoulder, arm, forearm
    & Palm –outer side
  • This time admission not needed, Treatment started as out-patient.

At the end of THIRD course, 20th MAY 2003

  • No Pains, But mild pain after excessive strain

LT. SHOULDER:

  • Muscle Contour – Much Better
  • Muscle Power – Around “ 3 + ”
  • Muscle Tone – Much Better

    except mild atrophy
  • Muscle power – almost normal
  • Neck movements – pain free, no tenderness

Considerable decrease of the C4-5 disc herniation.
Left Para central bulge is not seen
