Indira Gandhi National Open University in collaboration with Institute of Acupuncture & Natural Medicines  (IANM), under the chairmanship of  Padmashri Dr. Raman Kapur, invites application for admission to one year Online PG Diploma in Acupuncture (PGDACP) 2010.

Eligibility Criteria- Medical graduates of Allopathy, Ayurveda, Unani, Sidha, Homeopathy, Yoga and Naturopathy.  Fees- Rs. 20,000.

Acupuncture is an art and science of Happiness

You may be surprised to know that …..

  • In CHINA, 800 Diseases are being treated  with ACUPUNCTURE THERAPY and at least in 140 countries in the world.

  • The W.H.O. recognized Acupuncture in 1979 and strongly recommended  integration with western medicine and to include in the medical curricula.

  • As early as 1892, Sir William Osler –described  use of acupuncture  in the first edition of The Principles and Practice of Medicine (which  was considered authoritative for more than 30 years). "For lumbago," he wrote, "acupuncture is, in acute cases, the most efficient treatment."

  • Now most text books of Modern medicine like ‘Text book of Medicine by Davidson, Harrison’s, Current Medical Diagnosis & Treatment & many more have included chapter on Acupuncture.

  • There are more than 10,000 medical acupuncture doctors in Italy.

  • Holland has the highest density acupuncture doctor, with an estimated one practitioner for every 3,200 people

  • In Australian general practice - Acupuncture is used by about one in seven general practitioners. Its use is associated with middle-aged practitioners, who presumably have more clinical experience.

  • U.S. which has a more liberal legal status for acupuncture  has  about 17,000 licensed acupuncturists and about 5,000 medical acupuncturists. The FDA approved Acupuncture needles in 1996.

  • 60,000 doctors in Japan use acupuncture along with drugs, nerve blocks and other approaches to treat patients with chronic pain.

  • British Medical Association (2000) recognized  acupuncture for  National Health Services as complementary treatment. More than 2000 doctors use acupuncture in National Health Services.

  • Most of Medical Universities abroad have acupuncture departments, conducting & publishing RCTs in medical journals like For e.g. BMJ,  JAMA, The New England Journal of Medicine, Post Graduate Medicine Journal and list is endless in addition to acupuncture journals. Now, BMJ group started ‘Acupuncture in Medicine’.

  • Legal status in India - Any qualified doctor who has taken appropriate training in acupuncture can add acupuncture to practice.
